spendthrift that i am

i didn't really need it, but i wanted it, so i got it.

pennywise pound foolish am i, but if being foolish makes me happy, well then, can't really be complaining can i? besides... it's so purdy!!!

the realization that one can find contentment and happiness with another is a joy that one cannot even begin to explain.

almost done

the past three days have been a bit of a blur. it seems forever since i left singapore and unless something drastic happens, i get to head back home tomorrow.

funny how one would expect to be prepared for anything after the tsunami, but burnt and charred bodies, especially those of children, will do even the strongest of souls in. i'm sure i have it a lot better than vince, at least i get to come back and sleep in a proper hotel room every night, but at the same time, it's nerve wracking in it's own way. especially after tokyo.

i guess everyone needs a wake up call once in awhile.

crash and burn

one phone call, two flights and 14 hours later, i'm sitting in the lobby of the novotel hotel in medan after filing pictures only to find out that i missed deadline by a couple of minutes. bloody internet cafes.

pulled off leave to cover the plane crash here in medan, indonesia, and while i gripe and moan about it, the thrill of actually doing the job i've been trained for is always there. that and the fact that seeing bits of smashed up airplane and human bodies strewn all over a busy residential area is a sobering thought.

a hot bath and bed beckons before starting off bright and early in 6 hours time.

good idea?

i am all about snaring rapists and making them suffer for their crimes against women, but the rapex just seems to touch a squeemish nerve within me. maybe it's just the thought of being trapped by one of those that scares the hell out of me

oh what the hell, i say go for it.

every little thing she does is magic

this is the second year in a row that she's hoodwinked me and sprung a surprise party from under my very nose.

last year's walk to brewerkz that culminated in a surprise birthday party complete with self decorated cake and plenty of friends was overshadowed tonight by the sheer number of people that turned out for the barbeque dinner at my place. "oh damn, i think i pit-char lobang when i told you your parents were having a party for you tomorrow night" she tells me, "please don't let them know i told you ok?" followed by "can you follow me to pick up the cake i bought for tomorrow? the shop closes on sunday."

so i obligingly follow, stopping at basheer to look for a spectacular book on the complete works of tadao ando, followed by a stroll in the newly completed national library right next door. in her eyes, the surprise didn't work when i begged off from wandering around more because of the headache i suddenly developed, but to me, nothing could really beat coming home early and seeing dad on the barbeque, the tables set out in the garden and the party that was just waiting to happen.

my party. organized by the person i love. in my house. under my very nose.

she's disappointed that the surprise "didn't work".

i know for a fact that she's wrong. and i love her that much more for making the magic that transforms everyday of my life.

tokyo: day 8

today was free and easy, no plans except for dinner, and randy and i spent the afternoon wandering around harajuku and shibuya again, actually taking time to browse the shops and galleries this time, instead of speeding through. a much better way to conduct a vacation.
