gulp

now those of you that know me, realize that while i had my alcohol guzzling heyday, that i hardly drink anymore.

maybe it's the added responsibility of driving a car and riding a bike, well that and the laziness (and cheapness) that makes me ask "why take a cab when i have my own transport?" but i can hardly be bothered with the hassle of taking public transportation to and from watering holes.

but as per my last post, it's been a shitty week, and i am tired, and turning into an insomniac, and nothing really sounds much better to me right now that a pint (or five) of guinness or hoegaarden. neither of which i have at home. add that with the inherent laziness that is inevitable at the end of a long day at work, and you have me sitting at home craving for something that i don't have.

then again, the bar IS well-stocked, and i guess it won't take too much imagination to whip up something equally delicious and sleep inducing.

gin & tonic? rum & coke? southern comfort & 7-up? bailey's on the rocks? oj & vodka? whiskey & soda? bourbon?

the possibilities are endless. and the sleep that will surely follow is one that i look forward to.

dog tired

this isn't me, but i couldn't find a better picture to descibe how i've been feeling these past few days... well i guess the post title gives it away too. in fact, looking at my calendar, it startles me to realize that the last day i was officially off (ie. didn't step into the office) was on august 11th, a full twelve days ago.

sure i've had "off days" between then and now, two in fact, but when you spend a good four hours of the first day in the office attending some talk by the australian high commissioner and finishing off administrative work and the whole of the second "off day" attending hermes (new computer system) training, you don't really get much downtime.

the good news is that my photojournalism class is over.

the bad news? well that i'm on the sunday times beat for the next two weeks (think 16 hour days, fickle editors and the constant reevaluating and changing of conceptual photos, usually AFTER the assignments are completed) and you'll get an idea why everyone dreads their stint there.

well that and the average of four hours of sleep a night can really make one moody.

i know i've been whining a whole lot recently, but i know that come sunday, there SHOULD be a lazily-blissful smile on my face as i lie on my bed doing absolutely nothing.

let the countdown begin...

the mobile lifestyle

so the new phone has been treating me pretty well. but it's really the discovery of agile messenger that's been keeping me excited.

a tech whore at the best of times, i seem to come into my own when i can not only be a tech whore, but also broadcast the fact to all my friends...

while sitting in some godforsaken dump...

on msn, icq, aim and yahoo messenger...

on my phone.

i think i'm still safe though, but you will know this addiction has taken a turn for the worse if you see me buying this.

visual variety

dear photojournalism students,

when working on your final project for my class, please keep in mind the concept of visual variety. shooting everything from the same distance and perspective does nothing to excite your work and serves only to make me yawn.

so here are some examples (courtesy of my trip to sydney) to help you remember...

take a step back

or get really close

and don't forget to look around

regards,
your lecturer

the beading lady

while i haven't had the opportunity to actually see the beading lady actually beading, i did have the opportunity to see her in full bead shopping glory.

god knows i wouldn't have the patience to sift through a bazillion different styles of beads looking for the perfect ten, but to each his own.

the one where he reappeared

in the last eight days, i've:

- had a pedicure (courtesy of the beloved) and actually enjoyed it (good first experience)
- prepared a portfolio for my annual review
- bought two cell phones one of which i cannot use because i am waiting to trade it in for another color
- been to sydney for the fourth time in two months
- visited the sydney fish market (also for the fourth time in two months) to indulge in oysters, prawns and the like
- been caught in the rain two days in a row
- gone into a store and asked for boob tubes, then proceeded to buy eight pieces for my sister and the beloved
- ate shandong chicken at superbowl on goulburn street in sydney two nights in a row
- visited the art gallery of new south wales where i caught a couple of brilliant exhibitions (lewis morley: 50 years of photography and "zen mind, zen brush")
- tentatively (once the miles are in) qualified for krisflyer elite silver
- went puppy shopping with my elder sister (and no she still hasn't made up her mind on what to get)
- attended a wedding
- watched a chick flick

now for another long week.
